"Overcoming Stereotypes" - An Inspiring Journey to Overcome Negative Beliefs and Pursue His Dream: Professional Soccer

Triston Henry shares his inspiring story. From a young age, he was forced to confront the beliefs that stereotyping left him with. Growing up in a single parent household in Toronto, Triston was forced to battle with stereotypes about young black men his whole life. He dreamt of becoming a professional goalkeeper. Triston decided to play college soccer at The University of Connecticut, one of the best programs in the NCAA. Facing more obstacles than ever before, his perseverance rewarded him with a contract from Forge FC in Canada’s top division. In 2019, he led them to a championship as the leagues top goalkeeper.
